My (now) husband and I didn't have a song that was 'our song' - so I was on a quest for THE song that would be our First Dance Song. I knew I wanted it to be unique but also dance-able. I sifted through dozens of playlists, listened to the lyrics, and found myself tearing up at a few... how could these songs express our love so eloquently?!
I narrowed it down to a few - which admittedly had two Disney songs in it! But I finally landed on the song... what would become our wedding dance song, "And I Love Her" by The Beatles. I've never had a wedding couple use this song for their dance and even though I'm not particularly a big Beatles fan - what struck me was the classic Rumba beat, which had a special connection to me since ballroom dance is such a big part of my life. Pair that with standing the test of time and I found my Timeless, Unique, and Dance-able First Dance Song!
One thing thing I did give myself permission on was to not overthink it - this was key for me. It's my job to work with couples on creating the perfect First Dance so I knew the ins and outs, talk about pressure!
Having a First Dance at your Wedding remains the #1 tradition for couples. In my experience with teaching hundreds of couples, most have no idea what their First Dance song should be... A lot of couples make the mistake of looking at other couples and see what's typical and asking what they 'should' do. My advice? Your Wedding Dance Song should feel like you! Your love is unique and your song should reflect that.
I've created a list of the most popular songs couples use for their First Dance AND these are easy to dance to. Plus, I've included what type of style they are so you can find one that matches the vibe you're looking for. P.S. All these options are Wedding Dance Instructor approved!
